How the planning process works
A process built around the decisions, not the move date
Relocation budgets fail when they are organised around moving day. The process below organises the plan around the decisions that actually move the numbers: residency, schooling, the parallel household, and the closing event.
The five steps
Step 01 — First contact
You send your assignment timeline along with the handful of decisions that feel unresolved. We reply by email within two business days to schedule the first working session, and to confirm the fixed fee for the engagement in writing.
Step 02 — Timeline mapping
In the first session we map the full cash-outflow timeline from the assignment letter to the first settled tax year. This includes the home-country costs that are still running, the Taipei setup costs, and the one-off deposits that are easy to miss in a monthly view.
Step 03 — Stress test
We stress-test the timeline against the decisions coming due: the 183-day tax-residency trigger, the school enrolment deposit, the lease deposit multiples, and the parallel-household closure date. The output is a short list of decisions ordered by financial impact.
Step 04 — Written plan
You receive a written plan: a 12-to-24 month cash-flow projection, the decisions flagged in step 03 with recommended dates, and a defined closing event for the parallel household. The plan is written so it can be handed to your accountant or employer.
Step 05 — Quarterly revisit (ongoing engagements only)
For the ongoing engagement, we rebuild the cash-flow plan each quarter against actuals. Decisions that slipped get re-dated, and the closing event gets re-confirmed rather than left to drift.
What the process does not cover
We do not file tax returns, manage investments, broker insurance, or act as a real-estate agent. Where a decision requires a licensed professional — a Taiwan tax filing, an investment account, a lease negotiation — the plan identifies the decision and its timing, and you bring it to the relevant professional. The plan is built to be handed off, not to replace those roles.
